Insulin resistance, fat in the liver, and fat around the organs develop over many years before blood sugar or weight raises the alarm. Two people of the same weight can have entirely different risks depending on where the fat sits and how much muscle carries it. The assessment therefore measures what weight and BMI do not show.
The blood tests are analyzed from a functional medicine perspective: fasting insulin and HOMA-IR, HbA1c, liver tests, blood lipids including ApoB and Lp(a), inflammation, and hormones, to find the imbalances behind the pattern and not just rule out disease. AMRA adds the picture of the body from within: excess fat that accumulates around and in your organs, in the liver and in the muscles, and your muscle volume, measured by MRI in a three-dimensional image that can be followed over time. Muscle mass is one of the most important factors for your future health.
Muscle mass is the most important thing to protect in any weight change, and especially if medication becomes relevant: when weight drops quickly, a significant share can be muscle if training and protein intake are not prioritized. That is why it is measured before any decision is made, and why it is followed afterwards.
The 60-minute review results in a decision. The lifestyle plan, with strength training as a priority, diet, and sleep, is always the foundation. Medical weight treatment can be warranted as an addition, after assessment, and is then followed within the Long-term health plus membership. Lipid-lowering treatment and treatment of blood sugar are followed within Long-term health. One month after the visit we check in by phone, and that is when you choose how to continue.
We prepare everything, you choose the time. The blood draw is drop-in at Synlab, and once the referral to Evidia is in, you choose a time that suits you. The AMRA scan is currently offered in Stockholm, Göteborg, or Lund.
